Looking at me is a part of everybody’s morning routine. You check your reflections as you brush your teeth, shave, put on makeup and comb your hair.

More often than not, you believe exactly what I tell you.

“Do my teeth look clean?”

“Absolutely!”

“Did I miss a spot while shaving?”

“No, you got everything.”

While these answers I give you may be true there’s one answer I can’t possibly get right “Are you healthy?”

Most people misunderstand healthy as skinny and good-looking. Sadly, you often forget that your health isn’t just skin deep. You look at me every morning, checking to see if that half a gram of fat you worked off at the gym has come back to haunt you?

It may not have, but that doesn’t mean you’re healthy. Sure, you may have more muscle than you did before but does that mean your thyroid is working perfectly?

Do I tell you if there’s a blockage in your artery? Most importantly, will I be able to support if you were to find yourself in the hospital requiring treatment? The answer is obviously – No.

Let’s assume, you’ve been listening to me for a while. I will tell you that everything is absolutely fine. But, you constantly feel out of breath even when you’re completing basic tasks. I will reassure you that nothing is wrong. But when you finally visit a doctor, s/he tells you that you have a pulmonary embolism you’re going to need a surgery.

How will you pay for the expensive procedure? Will it wipe out all your savings?

These are just some of the questions that may arrive after you realized that you require medical attention. The easiest way to deal with all these questions at once is by ensuring you’ve got something ready to back you up when you need it. Most young, healthy individuals feel that they don’t need to pay a premium every year for an insurance policy that they might never use. But what happens when you meet with an accident or when you are diagnosed with a critical illness like cancer?

Your trusty mirror didn’t foresee the situations coming in your way

When it comes to fighting diseases and recovering, you need two important things the willpower to fight and the money to pay for your treatment.

The will to fight is up to you but what when it comes to the money required for the treatment? Insurance is something you can always count on to help you financially in times of need. To battle against critical illnesses you need early detection, timely medical intervention, and the finances to pay for the treatment. While your regular health plan will secure you against basic diseases or minor ailments it may not be sufficient to cover the treatment costs involved in a critical illness.

Hence, to be financially prepared against critical illnesses you need to buy a term plan with a critical illness rider that covers critical illnesses like cancer, heart disease, chronic kidney disorder, organ transplants and so on. It provides the entire lump sum amount on the diagnosis itself and the amount can be used for hospitalization and regular use just as an income replacement. So if you are unable to work and provide for your family, a term insurance plan like Edelweiss Tokio Life Zindagi Plus will ensure that your needs are taken care of.

Remember, the mirror can only tell you how you look, it will not predict the future. Like you know, the future is uncertain but what you also know is that insurance can secure you against any unfortunate event that may come up in the future.
