When Riya was 23, her father lost his battle with kidney and heart disease.
Riya will always remember her father’s once vibrant face in that cold and unforgiving casket. She won’t forget his lifeless and defeated hands, or how his pale lips would never utter another joke.
Even though the day of his funeral was undoubtedly the worst day of Riya’s life, she wishes she could relive it just to be with him one more time. But this wasn’t the end – she had lost so much more!
Upon her father’s passing, he left them with the funeral and medical expenses. Because he did not have any form of life insurance, the financial burden of his death was now the responsibility of Riya and her mother.
Even though her mother works night shifts as a neonatal nurse and her travel is nearly two hours, she was forced to pick up extra shifts to support the family. Riya already had a job and she worked about 10 hours a week.
Although the death of her father forced her to realize the importance of cherishing time with the family, she does not see them very often because of their busy schedules.
If Riya’s father had a life insurance policy, they would not have to sacrifice their physical and emotional well-being to keep up with expenses.
This devastating experience has taught Riya, that financial planning for such situation is absolutely invaluable. She now realized that to have a life insurance policy is a crucial lifeline for surviving family members.
Though no one can ever prepare you for the trauma of losing a family member, life insurance allows you to grieve without the constant stress of financial burden, and for that reason, it is an absolutely essential precaution.
